Incorporated Trades 200 Club

THE IRVINE INCORPORATED TRADES 200 CLUB BEGAN IN 2001 WHEN THEN COLLECTOR JIM BURNS MOOTED THE IDEAAS AWAY OF RAISING FUNDS TO PROVIDE A TRADES HOUSE FOR IRVINE INCORPORATED TRADES.

This idea was taken up and developed by Ex-Convener Jim Fairgrieve along with Jim Burns, and by the end of 2008 the 200 Club had 112 members.

The acquisition of a Trades House would provide premises for all Crafts to use — the Crafts currently meet in various locations around the town while the Convener’s Committee meet at Irvine Burns Club — as well as giving the Trades a fitting place to display our historic documents and memorabilia, raising awareness of the Incorporation’s history, purpose and tradition in the town.

THE TRADES HOUSE WOULD ALSO BE A SUITABLE VENUE FOR INTERVIEWS WITH APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES, AS WELL AS ENABLINC THE TRADES TO EMULATE THE STRONG LINKS ENJOYED BY INCORPORATIONS ELSEWHERE IN SCOTLAND TO SCHOOLS, THE FURTHER EDUCATION SECTOR AND UNIVERSITIES.

The Crafts have agreed to pay their share of ongoing costs once the Trades House is up and running. Therefore the larger the membership of the 200 Club, the lower the cost to the individual Crafts. You would be helping to create this.

What Is The 200 Club?

The Irvine Incorporated Trades 200 Club is a simple random draw. Two numbered discs are drawn from a bag and those numbers are the 1st and 2nd prize winners. The owners of those numbers will receive cheques and the winning numbers are returned to the bag prior to the next draw.

Who Can Play?

Originally this was limited to members of Irvine Incorporated Trades or their spouses or widows, but now anyone can buy a number. There is no limit to how many numbers anyone can buy.

How Much Does It Cost?

A number costs £5 per month, paid by standing order.

How Do I Enter?

Download, complete and return this Irvine Incorporated Trades 200 Club Standing Order form (PDF) to Ex-Convener Jim Burns at the address on the form. If you have any difficulties completing the form please contact Jim for help. Monthly payments of £5 are taken on the 10th of the month as indicated on the form.

How Many Draws Are There And What Are The Prizes?

There are twelve draws each year:
– at the Commemorative Burgh Ball in May.
– at the Big Pie in October.
– and ten other occasions throughout the year at the monthly Convener’s Committee meeting.
Prizes are half the monthly income of the 200 Club, with larger prizes paid out in the May and October draws.

How Will I Know If I've Won?

You will be contacted by the organisers so please ensure that your contact details are correct. Winners will also be announced on the Irvine Incorporated Trades web page.

What Happens To The Other Half Of The Money After The Winners Have Been Paid?

Money raised by the 200 Club will go towards the acquisition, and maintenance, of the Trades House.
